The heartwood—the rings found at the center of a tree—is the part of the tree that tells stories. It shows what a tree has gone through, what it has survived, and what kind of challenges it might face as it actively gives to the world around.

At Plant With Purpose, we understand that trees mean life. And this fall, we want to celebrate the stories that trees tell.

In conjunction with a online photo contest, Plant With Purpose will be accepting submissions for Hitting the Heartwood, a San Diego Photography Contest. Please email a digital copy of the photograph that you would like to submit to media@plantwithpurpose.org. Entries will be accepted between now and November 23. Deadline extended to 5:00PM on Wednesday, Nov 28! Submitted images will be printed by Plant With Purpose (11×14). A grand-prize winner will be selected by attendees (50% of vote) as well as a judging panel (50% of vote) at a November 29 event at Coffee and Tea Collective. The winning image will be printed in The Sower, Plant With Purpose’s quarterly newsletter, as well as on the blog, and the winning photographer will receive a Plant With Purpose prize pack (t-shirt, pine-needle basket, coffee, and more).
