Pray With Purpose This April

Written by Plant With Purpose on April 6, 2012 in General

The first Friday of each month, the Plant With Purpose staff, both in the U.S. and in our six international offices, come together to pray for our programs, our partners, and the incredible work God has called us to participate in.

This Good Friday we invite you to join us as we lift up these prayers and praises together:

We praise God for:

  • The International Director Scott Sabin and Program Officer Christi Huizenga’s safe and productive visit to the program in Burundi.

We pray for:

  • Plant With Purpose beneficiary, Mrs. Esperance’s, baby girl who has been in the hospital. Please pray for a fast recovery.

Dominican Republic
We praise God for:

  • The successful transition from our traditional credit cooperatives to a savings-led model over the last year. Savings groups provide farmers who usually wouldn’t have access to financial services such as savings and loans with the opportunity to save their money in a safe place, receive loans to invest in businesses, and build a network of community and accountability.

We pray for:

  • The communities of El Yujo, La Represa, La Joya, and Los Arroyones to embrace the savings methodology.
  • The women’s savings group in Aguacero as they add new members in the next savings cycle.
  • The staff as they seek to help communities become better stewards of their resources, both financial and natural.
  • The Bible Study group teachers to be effective and compassionate in their outreach and teaching.

We praise God for:

  • The safe and wonderful visit from the U.S. team.
  • The successful savings group training that took place last month.

We pray for:

  • The success of the Village Savings and Loan pilot project. Pray that the savings groups will promote unity and solidarity among participants as they join together to save money and provide loans.
  • A strong end to the fiscal year for staff and farmers alike.

We praise God for:

  • The recent Vision Trip; it was a blessing to the local program as well as the visitors.
  • His protection of our staff and farmers, especially during the earthquake on March 20th.

We pray for:

  • Our new employees, Carlos Cua Cach and Jorge Lopez, who work in the community of Mitlatongo. Pray that God will keep them in His grace, and that they will be empowered to share the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The upcoming Vision Trip. Pray that God will protect the visitors and that the trip will be a blessing for all who participate.

We praise God for:

  • The 3,000 people who came to our agricultural trade show in Marangu.

We pray for:

  • A smooth development process for the irrigation canals we intend to build in collaboration with community groups and the government. The project will bring clean water to communities.
  • Wisdom as we look to fill two open staff positions: a monitoring and evaluation officer and a Village Community Banking (VICOBA) program leader.

We praise God for:

  • The successful and meaningful workshop on Holistic Ministry with 44 church leaders and pastors. The theme of the workshop was how the local churches could respond to environmental issues (such as people using chemicals and clearing land for mono-cropping). The leaders and pastor were also trained on organic methodologies, agroforestry, and backyard agriculture.

We pray for:

  • The Village Savings and Loans (VSL) preparations and translations necessary for the pilot project starting in June.
  • The Women’s Literacy Projects in three villages that promote the roles of women in their communities’ development.
  • The end of the drought and air pollution in Northern Thailand.

We praise God for:

  • The numerous campaigns that are highlighting our work this month in honor of Earth Day, including the 58: Global Impact Tour, World Vision’s ACT:S Network, Project 7, Groupon, AOL, and Tyndale House Publisher’s The Way.

We pray for:

  • Our campaigns to generate awareness and that the money raised will bring about transformation for our farmers and that individuals will be moved to act in ways that honor our Creator.
  • A successful showing of the Live 58 Film here at the San Diego Office on April 13. Pray that the movie will open doors for new connections, change hearts, and support our Global Impact Tour project in the Dominican Republic.
  • Safe and fruitful staff trip to Mexico (Milmer, Kristen), and the Dominican Republic (Armando, Becky, and Aly).
  • Earth Day – For the spiritual transformation of those meet.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support! We are deeply grateful for your partnership, and wish you a blessed and happy Easter!
