Prayer With Purpose this July

Written by Plant With Purpose on July 5, 2012 in General

As a Nation, we celebrated our independence this week! Also on the calendar was Burundi’s 50th anniversary of its independence, our 28th anniversary as an organization, and the start of a new fiscal year. We’ve been reminded that all our accomplishments are rooted in our dependence on the Lord.

On the first Friday of each month the Plant With Purpose staff, both in the U.S. and in our six international offices, come together to pray. We invite you to join us tomorrow as we lift up these prayers and praises together:

Burundi

We praise God for:

  • The doors that have opened through our Theology of Work program. People are seeing the world through fresh eyes and becoming more engaged in both their church and community.
  • Burundi celebrated its Jubilee of Independence on July 1, 2012. We thank God that His grace and love sustained many during the conflicts that affected this nation. God has been faithful and Burundians are now hopeful to live a changed, liberated life.
  • Program Officer Christi’s 10-day visit. We thank God for showing His kindness in healing her from malaria. Our cassava consultant is also feeling better after having malaria.
  • A great end to the fiscal year.

We pray for:

  • The cassava value chain analysis. Our farmer associations have seen a significant increase in cassava production and are looking into ways to add more value.
  • Burundi, as it turns 50 years old. We pray for continued peace and stability as the country moves into the next phase of history and healing.
  • A time of inspiration during our staff retreat.
  • God’s Spirit to lead us in the new fiscal year, our fourth year of service in Burundi.

Dominican Republic

We praise God for:

  • The current Vision Trip. We pray that God would bless the group with an edifying time and expand their vision for the world.

We pray for:

  • Continued wisdom for our Church, Community and Change program committees as they plan new projects in their communities.
  • Our Village Savings and Loan groups to use their training to develop small businesses.
  • Wisdom for our technical staff and farmers in Hondo Valle as they establish a new agroforestry program.

Haiti

We praise God for:

  • A great end to this fiscal year.

We pray for:

  • A fruitful fiscal year for 2012-2013.
  • The Village Savings and Loan program to continue spreading in the communities where Plant With Purpose works.
  • That the Church, Community, and Change program will spread to new congregations in the coming fiscal year.

Mexico

We praise God for:

  • God’s continued care for our field and office staff.
  • The formation and perseverance of our new Village Savings and Loan groups.
  • His guidance as we develop our program in new areas.
  • The provisions for transportation equipment and tools needed for our work.

We pray for:

  • Mexico’s newly elected President, Senators, and Federal Deputies.
  • The health care team and promoters.
  • Participation in reforestation activities in the communities of El Oro, Santa Inés, and Tamazola by students and educational authorities.

  • An excellent training for our board.
  • Continued interest in starting new Village Savings and Loan groups.

We pray for:

  • We are testing new participative ways to help the farmers work through challenges that they face every day. We pray that the trials of these methods are productive and helpful.

Thailand

We praise God for:

  • That our NGO partners and the Fang district office are having a better response to legal status and citizenship issues.
  • Mrs. Nameesee Jaka, our new Village Savings and Loan staff member. Pray for her understanding of the VSL methodologies and work with target groups.

We pray for:

  • The half-yearly review and evaluation of the Programs Department.
  • The survey of new villages to target in the northern provinces of Thailand.
  • 10 pastors and church leaders from Myanmar will be going through a 2-month Holistic Development and Holistic Ministry training program.
  • Preparations for a meeting later this month by the Thailand Holistic Ministry Core group (10 Christian Organizations) who will be evaluating the strategies and implementation of the Church and Community Mobilization Process from this past year.
  • Changes of the government policy on natural resource management, which could impact the Community Land Deed project in Chiang Rai and other places in Thailand.

We praise God for:

  • All our supporters who allowed us to have a successful end to this fiscal year.
  • Aly Lewis and the four and a half years that she was on staff as our Grant Writer.

We pray for:

  • The new fiscal year, that expectations will be met and exceeded, allowing even more lives to be transformed.
  • The successful transition of our new Grant Writer, Beth.
