Celebrating Juan Adrián

As the year comes to an end, we’re not ready for the celebrations to end so we’re sharing some of our favorite stories – graduation stories! Plant With Purpose fosters initiative and innovation that leads to self-sufficiency within communities. Today we celebrate Juan Adrián!

My life used to be very harsh. I was not able to feed my family. Sometimes we starved because my land was not producing enough crops. We barely harvested enough cassava and spices to eat or sell,” explains Silverio Mosquea, a farmer from the community of Juan Adrián, Dominican Republic.

Today, the Mosqueas are experiencing a different reality because of Plant With Purpose’s long-term investment in the families of Juan Adrián. “But after meeting Plant With Purpose, I learned to plant trees and oregano,” Silverio says. “After that, things started to change … .” The Mosqueas now have a steady income, a concrete roof over their heads, and plenty of food to eat.

Silverio is just one of many farmers in Juan Adrián who have experienced lasting change. We are excited to announce that the community of Juan Adrián is graduating, no longer in need of assistance from Plant With Purpose’s programs. Seeing communities become self-sustaining is our ultimate goal. This is just one success story we’re seeing internationally – stories that are only possible because of YOU.

Will you help us empower even more families like the Mosqueas in 2014? Your year-end, tax-deductible gift will make this transformation possible.
