Motivated By Love:
Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day!

As we reflect on the sentiment of this holiday, we’re thinking about more than glittered hearts and chocolates. We’re going back to the basics of why we do the work we do. What is Plant With Purpose’s motivation to plant trees? To encourage church leaders? To start savings-and-loan groups? It’s pretty simple. We partner with communities to restore land and livelihoods because we love God, His earth, and His people. And the farming families who partner with us feel the same way.

We’re told that love “believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things” (1 Corinthians 13:7). Christ embodied this love when He came to restore the earth and His people. Plant With Purpose is motivated by Christ’s example and inspired by our partnering families around the world. ThisValentine’s Day, our hearts are full of gratitude for these families and for the environmental, economic, and spiritual renewal happening in their communities.

The Persian poet Rumi once said, “Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder.” Whoever and however you celebrate tomorrow, remember that the heart of Valentine’s Day is to show love to others. Remember you have the ability to be a lamp, a ladder, a lifeboat, and more to the people around you. Hug your neighbor, hug your grandma, hug your sweetheart, or hug your friend. And while you’re at it, may we suggest you show even more love by planting a tree?
