Pray With Purpose this September

Written by Plant With Purpose on September 6, 2012 in General

Plant With Purpose hit a milestone in August of planting 8 million trees worldwide! The life saving potential of these trees and the soil conservation barriers that our programs established were put to the test in Haiti and the Dominican Republic with Hurricane Isaac. Reports from Haiti Country Director Guy Paraison mentioned heavy rains that caused infrastructure damage, loss of crops, livestock, and homes but most importantly, lives were spared. Thank you for your prayers during this time.

Join us tomorrow—the first Friday of the month—as Plant With Purpose’s U.S. and international staff lift up these prayers and praises:

We praise God for:

  • The plentiful vegetable harvest that our farmers associations had this year.
  • The excitement of our new Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups which will begin their savings cycle soon.

We pray for:

  • Safety for Technical Director Bob and Africa Program Officer Christi as they travel to Burundi.
  • Successful trainings on watershed management for the Burundi staff.
  • Blessings on all of our partnering farmers, as the planting season approaches.

Dominican Republic
We praise God for:

  • The alliance between Plant With Purpose Dominican Republic and the Ministry of Education. We pray that this partnership will assist churches in addressing the issue of illiteracy in rural areas.

We pray for:

  • Safety during this hurricane season and that the weather does not affect the farmers or the communities.
  • Our Village Savings and Loan Associations, that they will grow in their ability to implement the new methodology.
  • The Village Savings and Loan Associations, as they receive entrepreneurship training, that farmers will improve and establish businesses.
  • The Lord’s guidance during Plant With Purpose Dominican Republic’s upcoming board meeting.
  • Sufficient resources to be able to reach additional communities.

We praise God for:

  • The education that we have received in soil conservation. As Hurricane Isaac fell on Haiti, the soil conservation barriers were able to withstand the hurricane and people saw the importance of environmental conservation techniques like these for the benefit of the environment.

We pray for:

  • The communities in Ravine de l’Eau, that they successfully transition to using the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) methodology. We also pray that the trainers in this area will have patience during the VSLA learning process.
  • Prompt relief and recovery for the farmers who experienced loss of crops, livestock, and damage to their homes because of Hurricane Isaac. Pray against a cholera outbreak.
  • Wisdom in the hiring process for a new promoter in Acul du Nord
  • The family of those who lost loved ones this past week: Sultan Roberton from our Bonhomme VSLA group, Madam Pierre Rose Marie from the Beyanos VSLA, and Pierre Sainvictor who was the treasurer of the Beyanos VSLA group.

We praise God for:

  • His protection of our staff and communities during this rainy season. His grace has been with our partnering farmers and their families.
  • The opportunity to train facilitators in the area of holistic health, which has led to stronger program activities in communities.
  • The involvement of the local leadership in the community of Monte Frio Tamazola as a 70,000-liter cistern was constructed.

We pray for:

  • The formation of the new Village Savings and Loan Association groups, which will provide a method to save and create accessible loans for the communities.

We praise God for:

  • The good health and positive energy within the Plant With Purpose Tanzania staff.

We pray for:

  • The first planting season is coming so please pray for a successful tree-planting program during these shorter rains.
  • Adequate rainfall this year as since this has a great impact on program implementation and will lead us to achieve our annual targets for the number of trees planted and family gardens established.
  • The Plant With Purpose Thailand staff as they prepare for the Plant With Purpose International meeting that will be taking place in November 2012.

We praise God for:

  • Ms. Arunee, our new accountant and office manager. Please pray for the transition into her new roles at Plant With Purpose Thailand.

We pray for:

  • Ms. Nameesri as she travels to Chiang Dao and Mae Ai to establish three new Village Savings and Loan Association groups.
  • Cooperation between the organizations that are teaching skill development to the women’s group at Pang Dang Nok in regards to their handicraft businesses.
  • Wisdom as Plant With Purpose Thailand looks to expand in the Chiang Mai area. 31 villages are being surveyed to find the most suitable partners.
  • An easing of the heavy rainfall in Thailand, which has caused landslides in the north and flooding in central Thailand.
  • The preparation of Plant With Purpose International Meeting that will take place in November 2012.
  • The Plant With Purpose Thailand board meeting in October 1, 2012.

We praise God for:

  • The generosity of our supporters, community, and friends that have donated auction items for our gala which will be held on October 13.
  • Our new interns Jenney, Natalie, and Michelle and the help that they will be providing the development department.

We pray for:

  • The Planting Hope Gala, that as invitations go out we will have a positive response with many people attending and financially ready to give towards Plant With Purpose’s international programs.
  • Christi, Bob, Milmer, and Scott as they travel this month.
  • The preparation for the International Meeting that will be taking place in Thailand in November 2012.
  • That our fiscal year audit will go smoothly.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support! We are deeply grateful for your partnership.
