Pray With Purpose

Written by Plant With Purpose on March 2, 2012 in General

We’ve made the leap into March, which means it’s time for another prayer update from the field! The first Friday of each month the Plant With Purpose staff, both in the U.S. and in our six international offices, come together to pray for our programs, our partners, and the incredible work God has called us to participate in.

We invite you to join us tomorrow as we lift up these prayers and praises together:

BURUNDI

We praise God For:

  • Plant With Purpose beneficiary, Mrs. Esperance’s, healthy baby girl who was born two weeks ago.

We pray for:

  • The International Director Scott Sabin’s visit to Burundi to be safe and fruitful.
  • Restored health for Program Director Lazare’s father and wife who are in India for medical treatment.
  • The people of Burundi as the country prepares for its 50th Anniversary of Independence. We ask for God’s guidance and blessings upon Burundi.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

We praise God for:

  • The successful transition from our traditional credit cooperatives to a savings-led model over the last year. Savings groups provide farmers who usually wouldn’t have access to financial services such as savings and loans with the opportunity to save their money in a safe place, receive loans to invest in businesses, and build a network of community and accountability.

We pray for:

  • Farmers in the border region to implement new farming methods that will prevent soil deterioration and improve crop yields.
  • Communities to participate in Bible study groups and that they will be encouraged to establish churches.
  • The village savings and loan groups in La Rosa and La Javilla to continue to grow and increase in membership so that more people may benefit.
  • Wisdom and energy for the literacy facilitators that participate in the “Church, Community, and Change” project. This project empowers the local church to be an agent of positive change in the community. The first area churches have identified as an urgent need in the community is literacy, so Plant With Purpose has partnered with churches to offer literacy classes to community members.

HAITI

We praise God for:

  • The safe and wonderful visit with St. Clement’s Episcopal Church and La Jolla Presbyterian Church.

We pray for:

  • Wisdom for the Haitian authorities to choose a new Prime Minister after the unexpected resignation of the last one. We ask for peace and unity for the nation.
  • The success of the Village Savings and Loan training that will take place later this month. We pray for a safe trip for staff members Milmer and Armando as they travel to Haiti to take part in the training.

MEXICO

We praise God for:

  • His faithfulness and provision of resources for our work.
  • The progress that has been made and the lives that have been transformed.

We pray for:

  • A new health project, and enthusiasm for the participants whose training begins this month. Pray that many would experience healing and improved health.
  • Our partnership with local churches to engage in holistic ministry within their communities.
  • The health and growth of the village savings and loan groups which work every day to develop their financial, administrative, and organizational skills. May God bless their efforts.

TANZANIA

We praise God for:

  • A fruitful trip for two Tanzania board members to the Plant With Purpose office in the United States.

We pray for:

  • Continued growth and team spirit among the Plant With Purpose Tanzania team. We’re working hard to build a strong team that works well together and reflects God’s love.
  • The sustainable agriculture and VICOBA competition that is currently underway throughout the entire Kilimanjaro region. We hope that this will ignite further excitement within the community for learning about and applying best practices in sustainable agriculture.
  • The organic agriculture tradeshow that we’ve been working hard to plan. We hope that it will be a success and a great opportunity for farmers to be able to connect to buyers and markets.

THAILAND

We praise God for:

  • The successful meeting of Christian organizations and local churches in the Maekong Sub region. Pray that God will guide us to be able to reach out to needy people in this area by working with local churches.
  • The successful operation of the village clinic in four Palaung Villages. Pray for the health condition of the villagers, especially those who still spray chemicals. Pray that UHDP will be able to work with women’s groups to improve community health.

We pray for:

  • The new Village Savings and Loan groups that will be forming soon in target areas. Pray for guidance in the selection of the villages and the facilitator.
  • The Palaung hill tribe network and the selection of new leadership and their roles in responding to legal status issues.
  • Respite from the current drought and resilience for farmers and their families.
  • The movement of local churches throughout northern Thailand. Pray that God would give us wisdom and would strengthen our network and unity so we could become salt and light.

USA

We praise God for:

  • The rewarding time we spent with the Tanzanian board members who visited in February.

We pray for:

  • The successful implementation of the new Village Savings and Loan project in Haiti.
  • Safe travel for all staff members visiting various programs this month.
  • The  Live58 project to be effective in generating awareness regarding global poverty and the need to help the poor.
  • The development of Plant With Purpose’s Capital Campaign. We are excited to dream big about the future and partner with our many supporters to bring life-changing services to the rural poor.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support! We are deeply grateful for your partnership.
