T-shirts, Television, and Wilmer Valderrama

This year has brought many unexpected but extraordinary opportunities to share the Plant With Purpose story with new audiences. In August, I received one of those invitations. It said something like, “If you’re available, we’ll be filming Wilmer Valderrama (Fez from ‘That 70s Show,’ the voice of Handy Manny) as he competes in ‘Minuto Para Ganra’—MundoFOX’s version of ‘Minute to Win It’—in two days’ time.”

For this newly produced game show, Wilmer had chosen to play for the charities that This Shirt Helps raises funds for through their t-shirt sales. My immediate response was I think I can make that happen! An opportunity to hang out in Hollywood, meet a celeb, see a TV taping, and possibly promote Plant With Purpose? Yes, I can spend the day in Los Angeles.

To my astonishment, upon arrival, I was ushered into a private room, not just seated in the audience. It happened to be a dressing room where the producer, creative director, and staff kept checking in while we waited for the taping of Wilmer’s episode to begin. Amongst other surprises, I ended up in the makeup chair and backstage to get mic’d.

Hours after the appointed time, I was taken to the soundstage and seated behind Wilmer’s supportive staff. Sporting a This Shirt Helps tee, Wilmer began to play. And one by one, Wilmer started earning more and more money for Plant With Purpose. During one of the talking points, I got to stand up and share about the work of Plant With Purpose and our tie to Latin American countries.

I was even brought in on the deliberation over whether to stop or continue playing—keep the thousands already won, take a chance on even more, or potentially loosing all but $5,000? You can see just what Wilmer decided on MundoFOX’s ‘Minuto Para Ganar’ Thursday night, November 1 at 7 p.m. Tune in to see just how much money was won for Plant With Purpose by Fez, I mean Wilmer Valderrama, or check back on Facebook and Twitter as we make the announcement Friday.
